Strange New Places! Strange New Faces!
The start of a new school year can be an exciting yet difficult time for new and returning students. Not knowing what to expect can stir up a great deal of nervousness within a child.
So what can be done? At your neighborhood library you can find tons of books filled with characters wrestling with the back to school jitters. Reading about how these characters overcome their fears can help your child to conquer theirs!
Here are a few of our favorites:
It’s Llama Llama’s first day of preschool! He’s excited to meet his new teacher and friends. But when mama has to leave Llama Llama isn’t so excited anymore. Will mama come back? Will Llama Llama make friends in this strange new place? Read with your child to find out!
“There will be times when you walk into a room and no one there is quite like you. Maybe it will be your skin, your clothes, or the curl of your hair.” Sometimes is hard starting over in a new place where no one knows who you are. The Day You Begin reminds us of how important it is to be brave and to embrace what’s new.
Will I be in the same class as my friends? Will I understand the teacher? What if the teacher doesn’t understand ME? Aidan is pretty nervous about the first day of first grade. He feels so nervous that he doesn’t eat, gets crabby with his parents, and doesn’t want to get out of bed. Visit your neighborhood library to find out how Aidan gets over his first grade jitters!
