We are still very excited about the new Sarasota Herald-Tribune podcast that highlights national and local efforts to have children reading by grade level. Mix our excitement with one of our interns telling us that he listens to hours of podcasts a week and you get this list of some the best education podcasts. After hours and hours of listening, here is a selection of podcasts we love and we think you will too:
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has launched a new podcast focused on highlighting the efforts of programs combating issues in grade-level reading across the country. Such as a program that helps healthcare providers bring early childhood literacy into the examining room. With two episodes released so far, it’s easy to jump in and learn more about efforts across the country to combat issues in grade-level reading.
Recorded on the first and third Sundays each month, this podcast is a fantastic deep dive into the psychology of education. Unlike other education podcasts that are inevitably interviews, the School Psyched Podcast takes the form of a collaborative discussion among psychologists about various K-12 topics. We recommend listening to Episode 10 – Back to School.
Another good one, the ASCD Learn Teach Lead Radio podcast features ASCD Emerging Leaders as they teach you about various K-12 topics that are relevant to educators and positively impact children’s success. Past episodes have featured topics such as understanding how emotion supports student learning, creating a caring community in school and beyond, and a 10-point roadmap for literacy instruction (we’re pretty big on that here).
A personal favorite of our intern, this podcast features narratives, in the well-known NPR storytelling format, about education, opportunity, and how people learn. Check out one of his favorite episodes: Hard Words: Why aren’t kids being taught to read?
This gem dives into the highlights of and expands on the popular weekly Twitter discussion: #EdChat. This is a great listen if you’re interested in hearing about professional development, personalized learning, and everything in between.
