Pre-K Turns 1

This month PHLpreK celebrated its first anniversary! Just one year ago, 2,000 children began their pre-K journeys. PHLpreK is the City of Philadelphia’s free, quality pre-K program available to any family living in Philadelphia with a 3 or 4 year old child.

Did you know that quality pre-K nurtures children’s minds at a critical time in their development? Studies show that children who attended a quality pre-K program are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to need supportive services in school or repeat a grade. That means PHLpreK is preparing more children to be ready for kindergarten and beyond!

Thanks to PHLpreK, parents now have more affordable and quality pre-K options in their neighborhoods, and in the coming years Mayor Kenney is planning to expand PHLpreK to 6,500 locally-funded, quality pre-K seats in Philadelphia. That’s something we can all look forward to celebrating!
