The vision of KaBOOM! is that “all kids get the childhood they deserve filled with balanced and active play, so they can thrive.” They hope to build different environments for kids to be active, and play. Because playing is important for kids’ overall health, development, and well-being. Playing outside stimulates the imagination, and promotes problem –solving skills. And now they have opened an Urban Thinkscape at 4001 Lancaster Avenue!
Thinkscape plays an important role in helping kids with physical activity and equality. According to KaBOOM!,“in a class of 20 students, only 5 are truly able to be a kid for just one hour each day. This is because children are not playing at home, in schools, or in their communities.” Living in poverty causes obstacles including the lack of safe places, under-resourced schools, recess being cut, not a lot of physical education, and too much time around screens.
However, Thinkscape allows kids to use their brains and be active. They make sure kids are able to play anywhere. From laundromats, grocery stores, bus stops, sidewalks, vacant lots, playgrounds, and other creative outlets. For more information go here.
