It’s not often that Reading Captains are given coverage for the great work they do in connecting the families on their blocks to literacy resources. However, West Philly Reading Captains (and sisters) Amanda and Andrea Blassingame were the highlights of this week’s “Brotherly Love” segment on CBS3.
Detailing their work as Reading Captains, as well as their window campaign #BlackMenRead, the sisters were interviewed by CBS3’s Ukee Washington for a featured piece on the 6am and 5pm broadcasts on February 13th.
Speaking to Washington, the sister’s discussed their motivations for creating the campaign, as well as their reasons for joining Read by 4th – so that each child in the city can read on grade level by fourth grade.
