What’s the Parent Council?
Read by 4th’s Parent Council is a powerful group of parents and caregivers who share their knowledge, experiences, and ideas with Read by 4th’s working groups. We meet regularly to collaborate and advance our Common Agenda to help more children in Philly read at grade level by 4th grade.
Together, we tackle the barriers to reading success and fight to protect every child’s right to read.
Why Join?
Make a difference. Help shape strategies that support children and families across Philadelphia.
Ensure families’ voices guide decisions. Share your experiences raising a reader and navigating Philly’s school system.
Meet incredible education leaders and changemakers. All committed to growing our city’s young readers.
Get paid for your time. Earn $50/hour for 2–4 hours of work per month.
What’s the Commitment?
We respect your time and value your voice. Parent Council members:
Attend one virtual monthly Parent Council meeting (1 hour).
Join mostly virtual working group meetings every other month (1.5–2 hours).
Spend about 1 hour prepping for working group meetings.
Commit to a 1-year term, attending at least 80% of meetings.
Who Can Apply?
We’re looking for passionate parents and caregivers with a range of life experiences who:
Live in Philadelphia.
Have children ages 0–9 or experience supporting young readers.
Have computer and internet access for regular Zoom meetings.
Want to use their voice to help make change.
Can commit to attending meetings and participating.
Please note that current Read by 4th organizational partners and individuals already receiving stipends for attending working group meetings are not eligible to apply.
